Who we are
VisionTV, an S-VOX company, is Canada's and the world's, only multi-faith, multicultural broadcaster. VisionTV has a mandate to provide: “balanced programming focused upon the varied religious practices and beliefs of Canadians … programming related to, inspired by or arising from spirituality including related moral or ethical issues.” (Decision CRTC 1994-655, pg. 1 & 3) We are a not-for-profit, registered charitable organization.
About 50% of the schedule is comprised of dramas, comedies, documentaries, music, information and current affairs programs - presented, produced, co-produced and acquired by VisionTV.
The other half of the schedule is produced and presented by approximately 75 faith groups. This programming ranges from the Daily Mass and Reflections on Islam, to Voice of Hinduism and the United Church of Canada's Spirit Connection.
Sixty-five percent of programming in the overall schedule and 50% of programming in prime-time is Canadian.

VisionTV is available as a “basic” service on cable and satellite in approximately 8.4 million households across Canada. One in four Canadians tune in to VisionTV at least once a month. Approximately two million people watch each week; 6.3 million watch every 13 weeks.

Types of programs we are looking for
>>Documentaries<<
All documentary programming to be commissioned by VisionTV must fit the following areas. If your idea does not fit, please do not send us a proposal.
VisionTV has two, half-hour (22:00) documentary strands, I Prophesy: The Future Revealed and a new strand to be launched soon. Please see details below.

I Prophesy: The Future Revealed
New VisionTV Strand
Proposals are now being accepted for
one-off,
half-hour (22:00) episodes.
Please read the style guide thoroughly before making your submission.
|
I Prophesy: The Future Revealed is a new VisionTV strand that carries its audience on exciting and absorbing journeys into the many challenging futures that may await them. Each one-off, half-hour (22:00) episode features an earth shattering prophecy foretold by one of the world's most influential prophets or visionaries. But I Prophesy doesn't simply recreate the prophetic scenarios of famous oracles- it challenges these visionaries to validate their predictions in a world skeptical of their insights and cynical about their methodologies.

Supernatural Investigator is a compelling new one off, half hour (22:00) strand that investigates many convincing accounts of the strange and the supernatural. It is a unique merging of the paranormal and the investigative - focusing on X-files phenomena but subjecting them to real life scrutiny - leaving the audience to say for certain which stories stand up to rigorous investigation and which do not.

>>Drama<<
VisionTV is currently accepting proposals for culturally diverse dramas (half-hour and one-hour, and MOWs). We are looking for engaging, commercial, family-friendly programming that feature diversity in front of and behind the camera. We are not looking for programs that feature race relations or multiculturalism as the subject matter. The programs do not have to be spiritually focused but spirituality is welcome.
An example of a series that captures the tone that works for our audience is Doc Martin (Wed. 9 pm on VisionTV). An example of diversity is Grey's Anatomy. In 2006, VisionTV and the National Screen Institute - Canada (NSI) joined forces to create DiverseTV a program that gives writers from diverse backgrounds the chance to create a dramatic television series or MOW for national broadcast. Writers worked with veteran writer, story editor, Peter Lauterman, to take their ideas from concepts through to treatments, beat-sheets, outlines, and first draft scripts. Two of the The DiverseTV projects currently in production are:
- Mahalia by Andy Marshall and Abi Marshall: A series about a gifted young gospel singer facing a difficult choice: to stay within her community, or pursue her dream of becoming the next Beyoncé.
- Rising Sun: The Asahi Baseball Story by Jari Osborne: A MOW based on the true story of a legendary baseball team from Vancouver's Little Tokyo – a club whose championship dynasty was cut short tragically by the internment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War.
VisionTV began its foray into drama in 2003 with three pilots produced for the Cultural Diversity Drama Competition: The Kink in My Hair, Hotel Babylon and St. Jamestown.

Important notes VisionTV has been acknowledged as Canada's most exemplary broadcaster in terms of diversity. All of our programming conforms to the VisionTV Code of Ethics, Standards and Practices, and is consistent with fostering respect and tolerance of all faiths and cultures. We also actively seek to ensure that our programming reflects the full spectrum of faiths and cultures in Canada and provides a voice for those infrequently heard in the media.
VisionTV is a member in good standing of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council and all programs must adhere to the standards established by that organization. In addition, VisionTV is required to comply with the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' (CAB) Broadcast Code for Advertising to Children. Unsolicited proposals and tapes are not returned, so never send us your only copies.
We recognize that all ideas or projects presented in written form have been submitted in confidence by the independent producer and undertake not to pass any information about ideas or proposals to any third party without first obtaining consent.
